Is there such a thing called, natural born leaders? Can a man or women, without any training or no how just lead the masses? Clawson says, "Leadership is about affecting human behavior..."
Growing up playing sports I often heard the term natural born leader. Many times this label has been thrown out to individuals who are able to lead without using much energy or effort, but are able to tap into the hearts and minds of his or her peers gaining trust and respect. I do believe that people have natural leadership abilities, but too be a good leader, there is a progression.
John Maxwell requires a leader to, “connect with followers, from parenting, to supervision, to evangelizing." Maxwell captures the essence of leading by learning how to be humble and submitting. Learning to submit from our spouses, parents and overseers, we are able to be humble and truly follow. Not just following a man or women, but following something greater then a human, and that is obeying God's instructions. Paul relays the message that we learn to follow by submitting to our loved ones, obeying our parents, and by being a loyal servant. By adhering to these instructions, the concept of obeying and serving assists us in developing leadership components. From those components, Paul’s final instruction becomes easy to follow. Paul writes, "Continue earnestly in prayer being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2) The key word is pray. Praying in it's self is an act of submitting and sacrificing oneself time and blesses for others. By earnestly praying we are allowing the guidance of something far greater then ourselves lead our lives. In return that guidance improves our leadership. We all have natural leadership abilities, but to be the best leader we have to follow the instructions given to us, so we can affect the human behavior and connect with followers.
